Signs Are Opportunities to Make Decisions

When speaking with others about dreaming a common theme emerges of deciphering certain symbols to divulge the dream's message.   As humans we always want to make "sense" of things that occur in our lives though sometimes this is just not possible. I, myself used to get hung up on all the symbols in my dream trying to figure out the meaning held by each. The good thing about this approach is you begin to gather a wide knowledge of symbolism, understanding there is shared knowledge of signs throughout the world but also understanding how those symbols are special to you.

Over several years of dreaming I've begun to realize the symbols provide me an opportunity to make decisions. The symbol itself is not the decision. It's not my fate. We as human have free will and no matter what signs appear to us we can decide to act on them or ignore them. Sometimes, the signs will repeat giving you another opportunity to choose a different path, but you're always in control of what you think and do. Often times repeating symbols are there to get your attention, so you take a step back and really think about a particular issue. The symbol itself is not telling you what to think about it, but saying "hey, you need to look at this. It's a concern. This is bothering you". However, it's up to you to figure out how it's bothering you. Once you acknowledge a sign, meaning you accept it pointing to something that needs further consideration, your dreams can move to a deeper realm of showing you why something is bothering you. Your dreams allow emotion to flow. We typically inoculate yourself from feeling so we can ignore the truths that bother us, which is results in another host of problems such as anger/rage, chemical dependency, anxiety and so forth. Dreams are a window into your emotional health. They allow you to explore the depth of your soul, if you're willing to go there. As the dreams come you get to decide how much meaning they hold for you. This is the great thing about dreams. You can wake up and use the information to move you towards emotional freedom, ignore them, or allow them to keep you locked in a cycle of despair. It's all about your approach to dreaming. The dreams are not your fate remember? They serve as a guide to make decisions of how you want to use the information to live life. You decide how you want to live it.

So many of us want direction with our lives, but confuse it with a written out "how to" plan. I once had a friend tell me "If God himself handed you a note telling you what "to do", you would ask "Are you really God"? What I'm getting at here is that we say we want direction but often times we just want some one to tell us exactly what to do so we don't have to think about how to achieve A, B or C. We also than can blame the other's plan if we don't succeed. We don't want to make decisions from our signs because that means we have to take ownership of those very decisions if things don't work out. We all fear failure so instead we tend to do nothing, staying in the sameness of our lives because it's safe, though we may not be happy.

There is no exact plan for life. There are signs and symbols that offer guidance, but you decide what they mean to you and how to act on them or not. You are responsible for your life, your happiness and how your being affects the world around you.  Do not fear failure, as failure is how you learn. Go out into the world and seek your signs and know that you're capable of making decisions that can bring health, happiness and love to a world that needs you.

Blessings,

How Dreams are a Window into Past Lives

Past life experiences are not uncommon. Just like dreaming, they hold information which can help heal your soul so you can move towards being your Higher Self.  There is no need to fear these experiences, as their purpose is to lead to recognizing feelings and/or behaviors that no longer serve you. When you experience past lives while dreaming, it's a window you've opened to allow the exchange of information. It's a signal you're ready to move forward with gaining a deeper understanding of who you are and what your purpose is in this life time. It's all very exciting.

For individuals that are newer to dreaming or working with past lives I recommend the following before turning in for the evening:

1. While laying down take several deep breaths so you're in a relaxed state.
2. Visualize that you're protected by a golden, white or pink light. This light will not allow anything in to harm you and it won't let anything out that you're not ready to experience.
3. Take several more deep breaths and just be in the light.
4. When you're ready set the intention you want to achieve while dreaming. Either say it out loud or to yourself. For example you may say "I want to know why I'm so afraid of heights. Please show me why I'm so afraid".
5. If you're very anxious about "seeing" the reasons why, you can ask for the help of an assistant. That is when setting your intention say "I call upon my spirit helper, my totem, my guides, or Arch Angel so and so to help me see why I'm so afraid of heights". Remember, when you're dreaming you can also ask for assistance from your guides. You're never alone.
6. Make sure you sleeping area is safe, that you won't knock a lamp over your head, etc if you happen to wake up startled.
7. Have your journal close by, so you don't have to get up to write out your experience.
8. Again, visualize the light and know that you're safe and off to sleep you go! Have an awesome journey.

Upon awakening, write down your experience or draw it. This can be step by step the entire dream sequence or just how you felt upon awakening.  The overall message will be in how you feel and what did the characters try to draw your attention to. Did you actually see what they were referring to, or did you run away, wake up, or something else? Don't worry, if you woke up before you saw, it just means your not quiet ready to see yet, but you're getting closer!  Keep at it, you'll be surprised how addressing this underlying fear will change how you feel about your self and how you relate to the world.

Past life experiences are gift to allow us to become who we are meant to be.

Dream on.

A Dream Within A Dream

Dreams are weird, funny and often times indiscernible. Rather then giving us a clear message, they often leave us scratching our heads, simply forgetting they happened at all.  Until you get that one dream that just blows you away. You're either scared to death so you'll never forget it, have such a feeling of serenity you want to go back, or your dream wasn't your dream at all. What???

How would I know a dream wasn't mine you ask? I don't, but it just feels that way.It was so different than anything else I've experienced it didn't seem to come from me. Am I evolving? Becoming more attune to my soul? Going deeper into the depths of my psyche? God, I hope so! But I have no explanation for the event.

Here's the scenario. I'm dreaming that I'm with my husband in a "bad" part of town. It's night out, of course. We are walking. Each street or alley has two males either standing or sitting in a car. They look menacing. We avoid them. We duck into a building. But it doesn't feel "right". We are trying to decide what to do. A blond female now joins us. She is being loud and we feel she's drawing attention to our location. We tell her to shut up. Men are coming up a stairwell. They have on construction clothing. Hard hats, safety vests, and boots. We are looking for a way out without running into the men. The female and I run out a door. She is lagging behind so I'm almost dragging her. We are running down the street. I see chained linked fences and business store fronts. We need a place to hide. I see pieces of equipment for carnival rides so we go there. I tell the chick to lay down as flat as she can and don't even think of popping her head up to look. She's face down. Now, I'm looking to see if the men are following us and I see them searching, but there is only an outline of their bodies. You can see through them. I feel light as a feather now. I can feel the wind on my skin. Now, I see other people, their images more solid, dressed in period clothing from the late 1800's. A man and a woman. The woman has a black hat on with a red flower on, facing the front. They are talking about something. I can't quiet hear. I see a western store front and people coming and going. I smell horses.  The men searching are still present and are walking through the couple, unnoticed, even though it appears they collided.  I'm floating now. I'm no longer concerned with the men. I'm watching the other figures. The man and woman walk down the dirt road towards a carriage. They seem unhappy. It's daylight now. I'm being pulled back into my body. I feel the sun on my skin. I'm with my husband now. We are near an abandoned school. The front of the school is lined by dead trees. I see a white car with a tree sticking out it's back window, bending from the wind. I wake up.

I'm not going to analyze the meaning of either dream, as it's more important to think about two dreams going on at once. I have never experienced this. Have you? I would love to hear from you and get your thoughts about it. The implications could be positive or negative or both. It's so interesting. The mind never ceases to amaze me. The biggest thing for me, is the man and woman were not interacting with me the dreamer. It's as if I was not even there. The dream didn't appear to have any connection to myself, as emotionally I wasn't connected to it rather than it crowding out my own dream.  I focus on emotions, as when we discuss an experience, we utilize emotions to determine the meaning of interactions. Though, I did observe they "seemed unhappy".

Maybe the message is to keep my mind open for what I think isn't possible. Weigh in. Love to hear from you.

Blessings,

Dreamer

The Beginning

Beginnings. We often look forward to them as a way to start out "fresh". A clean slate so to speak. They hold opportunity to create something new, something we want. Other times though, a beginning is forced upon us by the end of something or someone. When we aren't the creators of change, we often fight it or refuse to engage in the process all together.

Change is what a beginning is.  It can be awful or wonderful, depending on the perspective you choose. Either way, change creates uncertainty and that's what we human loath.  Everything is as clear as mud, because even with the best laid plans, things don't always go the way we believe they should.

In my dream world, beginnings are demonstrated by a balance of black and white.  Objects or beings are paired as such, they are never presented alone.  It took some time to figure out the message but once I began exploring the colors in more depth it made sense to me.

Black is often associated with negativity; such as evil, death, the unknown, the abyss, the absence of, and the north - south axis.  However, in my dreams none of these emotional elements were present. Black appeared positive, based upon the action of the characters or how the objects were presented.  Black became the signal for a new beginning, like planting the seed in the dirt. You don't see the seed. You don't know what's going on under the dirt, but eventually new life springs forth from it.

So how does white play its part in this? White is associated with positiveness, the absence of all color or the sum of all colors, the east-west axis, and the Divine. I see white as a passage, a potential for manifestation and transformation. With white being present, it's signaling the potential within the black, the unknown, that I can create or am creating something even though I can't yet see the fruits of my labor.

My unconscious mind is telling me I am in state of transformation, even though the path is not seen clearly. I can rest assured even though nothing seems to be changing, is when the most work is being done.  The dream has repeated its message in various ways, just to confirm that "yes" I am on course and all is okay.

This is what I love about dreams, their encrypted messages which are leading me towards a higher level of consciousness. I am evolving, I am changing and that I'm okay.  To keep doing what ever it is I'm doing because it is leading towards something better. There is no warning signs here, just approval to keep going forward. When I'm in doubt, my dreams are ushering me on. I am not alone, as the Divine is working through me.

What messages are you seeing that are demonstrating you're evolving? Are you grasping a beginning or holding on to an ending?  What would life be like if you allowed yourself the joy of something new, something positive, something more than you are now?  Change is constant my dreamers. What you do with it will decide the experience you're creating.

Transformative Process of Death

We all have dreams related to the fear of dying. Whether it's being chased, a menacing figure looming, an accident that results in a fatality or you actually view yourself being killed they're all representative of a significant change which is occurring in your waking life.

Once you're awake the fear is probably residual, lasting a few minutes to overshadowing your day.  Death is inevitable for each of us, but dreaming it makes it appear as if it could happen at any moment. We're often left dumb founded, wondering what it can all mean. Or worse, wondering when "it" will happen.  Focusing on the actual circumstances or action of the dream is not necessarily what the dream is trying to convey. For example, the other morning I woke from a dream of my pending death.  In the last part of the dream sequence I was outside with a male companion walking to a parking structure. It was pitch black out. The evening sky was so clear you could see each star twinkling. I heard a voice calling my name. At first, I thought it was my mother calling me, but as I listened the voice was eerie and became louder. As we're walking down a ramp, I see two figures in a field. One very short the other very tall, massive. The voice screams "I'm going to kill you". The female races over to me and latches onto my arm like a dog. The massive figure is a grizzly bear standing on his hind legs. He makes no move and I wake up.  What this is telling me is I'm changing emotionally, cognitively, and socially.  I'm not the person I was even a year ago, but I couldn't see it. I've been frustrated by my circumstances, dissatisfied with aspects of my life and working to create change but "nothing" seemed to be happening. My dream verified I'm so wrong.

I won't take the time to go through the other elements in the dream, except for the bear. The bear is my animal totem.  I love bears and have always been fascinated by them. My dog even resembles a bear. The bear to me means strength/power and discernment. The bear is a natural upon drawing from its inner resources and energy.  It's often associated with the lunar symbol which is representative of the subconscious. The bear in this dream is telling me in a big way (as he's standing on his hind legs) to pay attention to what's inside me. Stop denying who I'm becoming and look to my soul to find the answers instead of going to outside resources.

Once you shake off the fear of death, you can begin to see the dream is wanting you to transform to your higher self.  Maybe you're at the beginning stages of change, unsure if you want to make the effort or you're deep in the process, but are questioning its feasibility.  Let's look at the stages of transformation model according to  Learning Journey's International Center of Coaching, learningjourneys.net.

                                                         First Stage: Awareness
You're gaining a deeper awareness of how you limit yourself by your own thinking. This is your self concept, i.e; I'm stupid, I'm not enough and so forth. However, you realize you don't like your current circumstances.

                                                         Second Stage: Inner Work
In order to change you must self examine, be willing to look at your faults and your strengths. This is stage of discovery where you begin to notice things about yourself you never have before because the desire for change is building and you begin to set fear aside. This is an emotional season in your life as you begin to sort out who you were and who you want to become.

                                                       Third Stage: Sorting Out
You begin to discern what it is you want and what you need to let go of. Deciding if the change will be worth it or not.

                                                      Fourth Stage: Source of Creativity
Options abound and you begin to see that you can make choices to create the life you desire or resolve a particular problem you're facing.

                                                      Fifth Stage: Appreciation
Begin to see yourself as the unique person that you are, having gifts and talents that can contribute to the greater good. No longer devaluing yourself, realizing the experiences you've had in your life have strengthened you allowing you to move forward.

Death in your dream is signaling you to a transformative process. It is telling you to shed old habits and take up a new way of being.  Transformation is about the end of something, but also a beginning.  Each of us handles change differently, but ultimately, it's to broaden yourself concept.  Your true self knows you can manage the change. Go forward with courage, find your champions for support and know that death of the old self is good, because you're becoming something so much more.

Figures From the Past

It's been awhile since I last checked in and I apology for that. I've been going through a transition and there just never seems to be enough time. I'm hoping things will quiet down for a bit so I can share some of the interesting dreams I've been having.

I've noticed a few things. First, individuals from my past that don't seem to be connected in any way. Male or female, young or old, black, white or Latino. The only connection seemed to be that they all had been a part of my life over the years. Upon waking, I had no particular feeling to attach to the dream. More of that "huh, what does that mean"?  Certain figures tended to appear more often, but in a casual role.  The action in the various dreams are about searching and having support. Yet, the people from my past were not in supporting roles. What I came to realize is the past represents fear and it's walking along side me in my dreams. Its presence isn't  over the top scariness like being chased or hurt but rather an almost comfortable presence that you don't notice. Now, if that isn't scary, I don't know what is. Who wants fear just hanging around? Not me. I decided I need to recognize the changes I'm seeking in my waking life create fear, as with any change it's about the unknown. Our minds like homeostasis and when you veer off course, the mind goes into over drive in trying to get you back on the safe path.  Though I thought I had paid homage to me fearful mind, it's still letting me know we have some unfinished business.

Secondly, the use of vehicles. This is a change for me in my dreams, as I'm usually walking or flying (not in a plane but like super woman).  I'm very concerned about my vehicle or finding my keys.  The action of the dream is centered around the vehicle. I either have to get to my car, wash it, protect it, or find the keys for it. I also have 1/2 the keys, but not the whole set. What I mean is, my car key is only one key but is on a ring with other keys. In my dream I only have part of the set, so I won't leave without having the entire set.  What does all this mean? My transition is about to get to the next thing in my life, thus transportation-how will I get there?  I want to move forward, but I only have half the keys or half the ability to access what I want. It plays out again and again, because I don't have the answers right now and my mind wants the answer.

What my dreams are focusing on are my fears that I won't find the answers I desire to solve my immediate problem.  However, I'm not letting this consume me during the day. I can't, otherwise I would be in a frantic state all the time searching, "doing", basically chasing my tail. What I've learned is to recognize my subconscious is impatient, but I don't have to choose to be that way during my waking life. Part of creating change is to trust the process. Though we think we have control, we don't. The universe decides ultimately what will happen. We can put in our efforts and good work, but don't agonize over all the details. Make your decisions, follow through with your commitments, but live your life. Enjoy it and be open to what comes. Recognizing possibilities is where your resolutions will come, if you trust that they'll find you. When we have expectations of how things will play out that is when we're closed to the process of life and possibilities aren't noticed.

Don't let your figures from the past cut you off from the rhythm and flow of life. Be willing to trust you'll receive what you need to move forward.

Blessings,

Dreamer

The search for anything.

Your dreams are always pointing you in a direction, yet it seems a lot of the time we don't know what that direction is. Better yet, we refuse to see the direction because it doesn't align with what we think we want or need.

My dreams of late have to do with searching for something. Anything. You name it, I'm looking. The object is always different and they don't seem to be connected. So, I figure the theme is the search.  My mind is focusing on what's missing.  Yet, as I sit here and run through the years of my life what hasn't been missing? If you look at each decade of your life thus far, some of us a few more decades then others, we can see what we were working toward; what was missing. It seems to be a never ending cycle. But isn't that what transformation is all about? We should never stop growing, expanding our minds, our potential. So the search continues.

Sometimes, the answers seem so daunting. So mysterious, so out of reach. Yet other times, they have always been right there, glossed over for something more extravagant.  I often ask myself, "why does this have to be so hard"? The answer, because nothing in my life has come easy and when it does I don't value it. I say I want it easy, but the truth is, I won't believe the answer then. Seem silly? Maybe, but we each have our own way of finding life's answers. Life meaning.  Part of our own growth is to see the patterns of our lives. How our own thinking keeps us stuck and how our behaviors keep us safe.  Transformation is reaching beyond your self, which is not safe. Are you willing to let go of all you know, to really search for what you want? Or, are you just going to dream about it and stay in the same old patterns as yesterday?

I'm ready dreamers, to begin a new chapter in my life. The ride will be wild and bumpy but in the end it's going to be marvelous. Happy searching. I hope you find what you need.

Blessings,

Control the flow, don't let it control you.

I read something recently that said REM sleep is like  parallel consciousness, as the brain acts the same way as if awake.  When you're in REM sleep, you are not in deep restorative sleep. The mind and body needs a balance of both.  The article also indicated that people who "excessively dream"-no definition of what excessive is- are more depressed then those who don't dream.  I have qualms with that.

Dreaming is a valuable tool that should not be under estimated, but it is in our society. Dreams are considered foolish, absurd, bizarre and have no relevance to waking life.  Any talented dreamer that has taken the time to enhance their understanding knows how relevant dreams are to providing solutions in every day life. Many of the greatest inventors and scientist have used their dreams to figure how things work or to make things work more efficiently. Sir Isaac Newton is one of them.

What I'm getting at here is that dreams provide insight and enhance emotional well being when dreaming states are controlled.  First, most people need to learn how to recall their dreams. The most frequent statement I hear from people is that "I don't remember my dreams", so they have no value to the individual. If a person does recall them, ever so briefly, they never write them down and are quickly forgotten. If a dream is vivid and repetitive, it is often associated with fear and the person wants to forget it.  Hence, real dreaming takes patience to cultivate the method of allowing the dream to play out, recalling and then translating it. This is by no means a short process. You must be committed and intentional in working with your dreams as often as they occur.

However, dreaming can get out of hand. Once the dreamer has figured out how to do the above, the flood gates are open and your mind is on a quest for adventure at night. This can result in lack of sleep due to the shear number of dreams one has. That lack of sleep can turn into insomnia, which can turn into depression.

So, once the flood gates are open, how do you close them or at least partially shut the gate? I think it's different for everyone. For me dreamers, is that I must write my dreams down as soon as I wake up. I can't wait till morning to write them down, as I began on a path of "trying to remember" all night long which resulted in half sleeping. I got no rest and was miserable.

No way do I want to stop my dreams, but I don't want to be controlled by them. If this is happening to you don't fear that you're dreams are going to go away, because they're not. Allow yourself some real sleep. I'm not going to give you pointers on how to control the flow, as when the dreaming is happening and your actions afterward will show you what adjustments you need to make in your process. It's so different for everyone.  My point here is simple. Cultivate your dreams on your terms, don't let the mind run all night long. You'll be happier and so will your mate and coworkers.

Dream on my friends.

Blessings,

Dreamer

How to begin again.

As I sit here tonight, I'm confused by the recent happenings in my life and how I'm suppose to make meaning out of them. I'm in a state of shock. Somewhere between feeling numb and wanting to cry all the time, as I received an ending before the beginning.

The best self-help guru's, motivational speakers, life coaches, therapists and whoever else you can think of will always tell you to live from your heart/soul, make a plan, forge ahead (be intentional and passionate), ask for help and don't stop until you arrive at your goal. Sometimes, you can do all the steps but not reach your goal and then what? That's where I'm at my dreamers. Just confused, disappointed and don't know what to begin with next.

The great thing is over the last few nights my dreams have been very active. I can't tell you how comforting they are to me. They're a constant in my life. I cherish them and honor them daily by writing them down. No matter how obscure the symbols are, I know there is something to be learned from them. I feel like a kid on a treasure hunt and they are my map. It's no different now, in this winter season of my life.

I'm not hear to tell you dreamers how to renew yourself when you've had a huge disappointment in your life, as I'm right in the middle of my chaos. What I can tell you is that your dreams will guide you through. Right now I'm just processing the event. My feelings are being brought to light, so I can understand what it is I am experiencing.

For example, just last night I dreamed I was at my childhood home. We lived on top of a hill, so are back yard had a retaining wall that separated it from the driveway. The driveway was probably 3 feet lower than the yard.  I was outside. It was a sunny day, but the yard was all torn up and the retaining wall was in chunks.  I look to the right and see the bushes that separate the yard from the street and see sea shells all over the ground. I look up and I see a pre-historic bird, similar to a crane coming in for a landing. It was redish-brown and speckled with those super long legs. It lands and begins picking up the shells. I think to myself, "why would this bird want empty shells", but it keeps picking them up. I then look back to the yard and see a palm tree knocked over (we lived in the midwest) and a pine or spruce tree knocked over. I run inside the house to get my mom.

Once inside, I see my mom vacuuming. I yell at her to get her attention and she shuts off the vacuum and we look out the window to the back yard. I then run back outside, but with a clothes basket, white and rectangular in shape. I put it down and begin putting wet clothes in the basket, thinking I need to get these trees planted. I want to plant the palm tree first and believe if I put it in the basket it will be weighted down enough to stand straight, but then I realize I put way too many clothes in the basket.

What does all this mean? I feel uprooted and in a crumbled state. I'm an empty shell, picking at what is left.  The crane is considered to be a sign of longevity, meaning I feel my problem is going to be long term.  The wet clothes and trying to plant a tree in them suggests that I want to change my outward appearance/persona but am overcome with emotion.  A palm tree indicates warmth and a spruce or pine tree also indicates longevity.  So, based upon the recent events in my life, emotionally I feel empty and unsure but know that I must begin again. I need roots like the tree.

I hope you find this helpful and that you may begin to see the signs in your dreams that can help you continue to grow and move forward in your life.

Blessings,

Dreamer

When an object appears to have no direct connection to you.

I've been away for awhile my dreamers, and not on a wonderful vacation. My family is going through a huge transition and I've been unable to find the time to sit and write.

However, it's not that I haven't had a ton of dreams. They keep coming in waves and I love it. What has been interesting for me, is that I keep receiving images that appear to have no connection or meaning to me, but draw me in, wanting to know more.

The symbols that have appeared to me don't seem to be connected to each other and don't hold a special place in my heart or an experience/memory from earlier in life. I would wake each morning trying to figure out why they were being shown to me.

After searching my brain for any hint of recollection, I gave up and went to my dream dictionaries. Yes, I do use them. Many "accomplished" dreamers scoff of them, but I find them useful when I'm at a stand still for information and have no one to bounce ideas off of.  There aren't many people in my daily life that pay credence to their dreams. A shock, I know.

Out of all the symbols there was just one that really stuck with me. The dream had an eerie quality to it and I acted totally out of character for myself, so those two things really got my attention. To be honest, I'm still not sure what the dream is trying to convey to me, and I'm still working out the meaning. I will share just a snippet of with you.
I'm with two other woman and I'm driving a car. We are in a neighborhood with tree lined streets. I pull over and we get out, walking deeper into the neighborhood. However, we are now in a large field that is both rocky and grassy.  I look up and see a hillside. A man is sitting on a horse and another boy is washing a pony. The pony looks very unhappy. Hurt.  When I turn my attention back to my friends, someone else is approaching us and offers me something. I hold out both of my hands and it's a miniature pony-that fits in my hands. The pony is just laying there. I notice it is a dark brown red color. I notice cuts all over it. Someone asks if I can save it. My friends encourage me to bring it home. I give the pony back to the person and say, I know nothing about horses and we don't have a barn. I then leave.

My dream dictionary has 4 pages written about the various meanings of the horse. What's written is the horse is a carrier of death; connected to war, the underworld, untamed power and but can also serve as guide, protector, and rebirth.

As I said before, I'm not sure why this symbol was shown to me 3 times in one dream and it's message remains unclear, as I don't equate horses with death.  Sometimes, the meaning won't be revealed for some time. What's important, is that you are noticing the symbols and how the images are getting you to move beyond your regular discernment, as your dreams are becoming more complex as you move to your higher self.

Don't be discouraged dreamers. I'm not. This is what makes dreaming so interesting.

Blessings
